Abstract
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of care has been highlighted, and new care models emphasizing mutual dependence have been proposed to overcome the unidirectional nature of traditional care models. Particularly, technological care utilizing artificial intelligence has alleviated existing hierarchical power imbalances, yet it has revealed limitations in decontextualized care. This paper revisits the concept of contextualized care through the lens of Aristotelian and Thomistic ethics to address these limitations. By examining Aristotle’s concept of “practical wisdom” and Aquinas’s notion of “prudence,” this paper proposes an ethical model for technological care and explore the potential for contextualized care that AI technology demands. This study aims to establish a philosophical foundation for advancing technological care beyond mere decontextualized services to nuanced, ethically-contextualized care.
