본 연구는 지역사회 성인학습자들의 아마추어 오케스트라 프로그램 참여동기를 탐색 하기 위해 실시되었다. 연구 참여자는 D시 지역사회 평생교육 프로그램인 아케리(AKERI: Advanced Knowledge Educational Research Institute)성인 아마추어 오케스트라 프로그램에 참여하고 있는 오케스트라 단원 7명, 전문강사 1명, 지휘자 1명이다. 연구 참여자들은 본 프로그램에 3년 이상 참여하고 있으며, 연령은 20대에서 40대의 성인들로 구성되었다. 연구기간은 2011년 3월부터 9월까지 자료수집이 이루어졌고 연구 참여자의 참여 동기를 묻는 반 구조화된 질문을 토대로 심층면담과 연주를 위한 연습과정을 참여관찰 하였다. 본 연구결과에 따르면, 첫째, 참여자들은 악기를 연주하는 방법에 대해 배우는 것이 개인적 성장과 자기표현을 위한 기회로 자아실현의 동기가 되었다. 둘째, 참여자들은 어린 시절에 경험한 긍정적인 음악에 대한 인식을 바탕으로 악기를 지속적으로 배우려는 학습동기를 가지고 있었다. 셋째, 참여자들은 악기를 배우는 것이 악기 배움을 통해 다른 음악가들과 소통할 수 있는 사회적 연결고리가 형성되며 새로운 친구들과 교류하는 등의 활동 동기를 가지고 있기 때문에 삶의 질이 향상된다고 하였다. 넷째, 참여자들은 악기 연주를 통해 바쁜 일상생활로 인한 스트레스가 해소되어 정서적 안정을 추구하려는 동기가 있었다. 본 연구의 시사점은, 성인 학습자들이 평생교육의 일환으로 성인 오케스트라 연주 활동을 통해 사회화에 대한 기회, 새로운 곡을 배울 수 있는 기회, 다양한 평생교육 참여를 통해서 도전할 수 있는 기회를 제공함으로써 성인 음악교육 방법에 대한 새로운 교육 모델을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to explore the motivation for Adult learners to participate in the amateur orchestra program in their community. The participants of this study, men and women between the age of 20 to 40, who are the members of the AKERI (Advanced Knowledge Educational Research Institute) adult orchestra cosist of seven players, one professional instructor, and one conductor, respectively. They have been participating in this research for the last three years. The data for the research had been collected from March until September 2011 and In-depth interviews were conducted to study their motivation for playing in the orchestra more precisely, while we observed their practices. The results of this study are the following. First, the participants considered learning how to play the musical instruments as an opportunity for self-development as well as self-realization. Second, the participants have had motivation to learn due to their positive experience with music in their childhood. Third, the participants thought that learning musical instruments could bring them a new social connection that could help them interact with new friends and improve their quality of life. Finaly, learning musical instruments helped the participants relieve their stress from work, and etc. Learning musical instruments and participating in the adult orchestra, as part of continuing-education, have helped the participants find better life-experience as well as new opportunities for learning. This study suggests that adult learners who took part in the orchestral music activities as part of lifelong education could improve by providing opportunities to have future socialization, to learn new tunes, and get challenges through participation in lifelong education, a new adult music education model can be provided.
