Abstract
Existing studies of Noddings have been focused on introducing the theory of education, or developing educational models based on the theory of education. The purpose of this study is finding the ideological background of Noddings’ education theory for a broad understanding of Noddings’ education theory. As a result, I was able to draw the following conclusions: First, Noddings’ ethics of care is based on Gilligan's ethics of care. Noddings established the idea of care created by Gilligan, overcoming the women-biased limitations of Gilligan. Second, Noddings’ concept of caring was inspired by the philosophy of Buber. Noddings constructs the concept of caring based on the relationship ethics of Buber and the method of structuralization borrows from Buber's method. Third, Noddings’ theory of education is rooted in Dewey's theory of education. Noddings uses Dewey as his basis for his theory of education, further insisting on a more progressive change in the curriculum than Dewey does.
