Abstract

This study applied the theoretical model of parental involvement process developed by Hoover-Dempsey and Sandler (2005) to examine the father variables affecting the school readiness of early children. For this purpose, the relationship between father 's parenting efficacy, responsiveness of child-care and education policy, father' s parenting behavior and school readiness were examined. The subjects of the study were set at 6 years old before entering elementary school, and analyzed using data from the 7th year of the Korean children 's panel (2014). Data were analyzed by frequency, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, reliability analysis using SPSS 20.0 program, structural equation model was analyzed using AMOS 20.0, and the significance of mediation effect was verified by Sobel test. The results showed that the father's parenting efficacy and the responsiveness of the childcare and education policy had a direct and effect on the warm parenting behaviors. In addition, father 's parenting efficacy was found to have a significant indirect effect on the school readiness of the children through the warm parenting behavior. The results of this study suggest that the educational involvement of the father can contribute to the preparation of the school for the children who are entering the elementary school.
