이 글은 상징적 복잡적응계로서의 사회적 실천을 다루는 실천이론이 여성학방법론과 페미니스트 정치에 함의하는 바를 논의한다. 첫째, 사회적 실천은 공동체 내에서 사회구성원들의 행위와 그에 대한 구성원들의 상호주관적인 규범적 판단들을 통해 생성, 유지, 변화, 또는 소멸되는 일련의 행동 패턴들을 말한다. 이러한 사회적 실천을 다루는 ‘실천이론’은 사회적 실천이론, 철학적 실용주의, 그리고 복잡적응계 이론에 기반한다. 필자는 다양한 실천이론 유형들의 간략한 분류와 검토를 통해 이들 이론과 필자가 제안하는 ‘실천이론’과의 차이를 부각시킨다. 둘째, 여성학방법론의 실천적 전환이 서구에서 발전돼온 페미니스트 이론들의 수용과 그에 대한 탈식민적 비판들에 대해 어떤 함의를 갖는지 분석하며 여성학방법론의 실천적 전환이 그러한 수용과 비판에 대한 좋은 처방이 될 수 있음을 주장한다. 셋째, 여성학방법론의 실천적 전환이 함의하는 바를 페미니스트 정치와 관련해서 검토한 후 지난 수십 년간 효율적이었던 젠더정치를 보완/확장할 수 있는 페미니스트 정치적 전략으로 아고니즘 정치를 도입할 것을 주장한다.
Abstract
This paper discusses the implications of practice theory of social practice as symbolic complex adaptation system in feminist methodology and feminist politics. I start by introducing practice theory, explaining social practices as a set of stable and evolving patterns of practices in a community maintained by intersubjective normative judgments performed by its agents on their acts and judgmental criteria. The three main components comprising this version of practice theory, called the theory of symbolic complex adaptive systems, are identified as social practice theory, philosophical pragmatism influenced by the tradition of German idealism and phenomenology and further modified by the recent developments in cognitive sciences and evolutionary psychology, and finally theories of complex adaptive systems. Next I analyze the implications of the practice turn I am advocating on the problem of and criticisms on adopting feminist theories developed under western influences. I claim that the practice turn of feminist methodology will be the best prescription against such suspicion. Finally I advocate agonistic politics as feminist political strategies to supplant the gender politics that has been so effective during recent decades.
