Abstract
The impact of disasters is parasitic and amplifies existing gender, class and racial inequalities. The Covid-19 pandemic in particular has placed the greatest burden on women as individual family and household becomes a place where women are required to meet multiple demands such as the provision of food, shelter, safety, education, workplace, and care. Women tend to accept disasters as ‘inevitable’ situations and endure traditional gender roles, as well as unequal treatment in the labor market. However, as the crisis has deepened, more women have come to realize that the care deficit due to prolonged social care and services can be satisfied only with considerable sacrifice. This article attempts to present a feminist perspective of post-Covid-19 social paradigm by analyzing the current gender crisis in terms of the care deficit and women’s unprotected labor rights. This alternative social paradigm calls for a radical re-assessment of the existing labor market, the use of technology, and the male-dominated productivity model, in order to cope with the crisis. The ecological paradigm emphasizes restorative gender justice by pursuing a social reproduction model beyond the existing economic and anthropocentric models.
