Abstract
· Research topics: Examining the distance between AI and human translation for poetry and exploring the possibilities and limitations of AI translators. Presenting the possibility and vision of expanding the overseas translation and publication of Korean poetry after Korean novels by examining the current status of Korean poetry's entry into the global publishing market. · Research background: To study the usefulness and limitations of using AI translators to translate Korean poetry in a situation where the expectation of the result is relatively lower than that of novels. In an environment where translation and publication is centered on novels, this study explore the ways to expand the overseas market for Korean poetry, which has a relatively limited market size, through the current status and several success examples of Korean poetry. · Differences from prior research: While the current status and cases of Korean literature's overseas expansion have been mainly focused on Korean novel, this study focuses on Korean poetry and attempts to explore the possibilities and limitations of translating poetry through AI translators, as well as the value and possibilities of intermediaries. · Research method: To examine the usefulness and limitations of AI translation in Korean poetry, the result values of using ChatGPT and the manuscript of target language worked by human translators were compared and analyzed. The result values obtained from working from ‘source language’ to ‘target language’ are translated into another third language to examine the gap between the result value and the original ‘source language’ to examine the value, usefulness, and limitations of the executive. · Research results: Examining the usefulness and limitations of AI translators in the publishing industry and exploring the value, role, and limitations for executives in the global publishing market. The ethical issues of utilizing AI translators were identified. Securing a plan to revitalize the overseas expansion of Korean poetry through the cases of poets Kim Hyesoon and Kim Yideum in the global publishing market. · Contribution points and expected effects: This study examined the possibilities and limitations of poetry translation through AI translators and developed a new vision and strategy for expanding the global publishing market for Korean poetry.
