Abstract

For the successful publication of the literary collection in Chosun Dynasty, community scholars decided on the task of each course after several meeting. The records made at this time are called ‘Bunjung-gi(分定記)’ that is work-sharing records. ‘Bunjung-gi(分定記)’ was nothing more than a simple record of each course's tasks and names are listed. However, it is important to know the early stage of the collection and the composition of the people who participated in the publication. The study covered 22 types of ‘Bunjung-gi’, including the production records of literary works, and the items classified by each course. We also looked at the publication process of 『Jeongjaejip(定齋集)』, a collection of writings by Ryu Chi-myeong, a scholar of the late Chosun Dynasty, and the status of his colleagues' participation. Items of ‘Bunjung-gi(分定記)’ can be divided supervision and management, proofreading, transcription, engraving and proofreading, withdrawal, woodblock management, binding and offering etc. The items and order of the ‘Bunjung-gi(分定記)’ were not the same for each literary collection, but were mainly arranged in the order of the publication process. Among the various duties recorded in the ‘Bunjung-gi(分定記)’, ‘Dodo-gam(都都監)’ and ‘Do-gam(都監)’ were appointed as the general manager of the publication of literary works, and were mainly composed of 1-2 people who were experienced and educated in the local community. ‘Do-gam(都監)’ was responsible for overseeing the entire process or for managing and supervising each process, including engraving, withdrawal, and calibration. ‘Bunjung-gi(分定記)’ was written by the descendants or students of the author of the book. However, if it was composed of only family members or non-family members, the second part of the book was written separately. In one of these cases, 『Jeongjaejip(定齋集)』, the scale of the family’s role division was up to 72 community people. The 113 people non-family's division of roles included Ryu Chi-myung(柳致明)'s students, including Lee Don-woo(李敦禹), Kwon Yeon-ha(權璉夏), Kim Do-hwa(金道和) and Kwon Se-yeon(權世淵). These friends were responsible for the main duties such as ‘Dodogam(都都監)’, ‘Gyojeongdodogam(校正都監)’ and so on.
