On the Contradiction of Capitalism: Goodwin vs. Marx

In a celebrated article, Goodwin claimed his growth-and-cycle model well embodies Marx’s idea of the ‘contradiction’ of capitalism. Curiously, his assertion has not been given proper scrutiny. This article attempts to critically evaluate Goodwin’s model on the basis of a reading of Marx’s Capital where Marx’s idea of the ‘contradiction’ of capitalism is systematically presented. By using a simple criterion, I argue that it is hard to accept Goodwin’s claim.
Abstract
