마르크스 공산주의론의 재조명

초록

통설은 마르크스의 공산주의를 사적 소유의 철폐, 국유화, 계획경제 등과 동일시한다. 하지만 마르크스 자신이 말했던 공산주의는 이와 다르다. 마르크스 공산주의의 핵심은 ‘자유로운 개인들의 연합’이다. 이 논문에서는 마르크스의 텍스트에 기초하여 ‘자유로운 개인들의 연합’의 세 가지 키워드인 자유와 개인 및 연합이 마르크스의 공산주의에서 어떤 의미를 갖는지를 검토한다. 특히 ‘자유로운 개인들의 연합’이 추상적인 유토피아적 구상이나 이념이 아니라 그 맹아가 자본주의에서 형성된다는 사실을 강조한다. 또 ‘자유로운 개인들의 연합’으로서 마르크스의 공산주의는‘노동자계급의 자기해방’ 원리, ‘아래로부터 사회주의’ 사상을 풍부화·정교화하는이론적 자원이 될 수 있음을 보인다. 하지만 마르크스의 ‘초기 공산주의’에서 ‘자유로운 개인들의 연합’은 ‘노동의 조직’과 ‘시간의 경제’, 즉 노동시간 계산에 의한조절이 이루어진다는 점에서 모순적이며, 노동의 폐지 경향이 현실화되는 ‘발전한공산주의’로 이행할 수밖에 없다. 따라서 일부 참여계획경제 논자들처럼 노동시간계산에 의한 조절 모델을 마르크스의 ‘가능한 공산주의’, ‘자유로운 개인들의 연합’의 완결된 모델로 특권화하는 것은 마르크스의 공산주의와 거리가 있다. 마르크스의 ‘자유로운 개인들의 연합’을 ‘역사의 종언’이 아니라 ‘열린 사회’로 사고하고, 여기에서 ‘발전한 공산주의’로 이행하는 경향들, 특히 노동의 폐지 경향을 검출하고확장할 필요가 있다.

Abstract

Marx’s communism is frequently regarded as the eradication of privateproperty to implement statization or a planned economy. However, the essenceof Marx’s communism should be conceptualized as the ‘association of freeindividuals’, composed of three key words: freedom, individuality andassociation. The elements of these components have already emerged within thecapitalist mode of production. Reformulating Marx’s communism as theassociation of free individuals helps to enrich the classical Marxist view ofsocialism as the ‘self-emancipation of the working class’ or ‘socialism frombelow’. However, in ‘early communism’, Marx’s association of free individualsis contradictory: it is still coordinated by labor-time calculation and theeconomy of time, and it is fated to be superceded by ‘developed communism’when the tendency towards the abolition of labor is actualized. Prioritizing aversion of Marx’s association of free individuals, such as a labor-timecalculation participatory planning model, as the only “possible communism” isnot warranted. It is necessary to conceive of Marx’s association of freeindividuals as an ‘open’ model rather than the ‘end of history’, and promote thetransition to ‘developed communism’ by universalizing the tendency of theabolition of labor.
