Abstract
This paper aims to assess the recent development of Marxist theories of the world economy. First, it reviews the harbingers of the revival of Marxist theories of the world economy in the 21 st century, focusing on the pioneering works of Giovanni Arrighi, David Harvey and Robert Brenner. After that, it establishes the main features of new currents of these theories, classifying them into six categories and finding the key points of contention among them: ① New- imperialism; ② Neo-Gramscian International Political Economy; ③ Political Marxism; ④ Open Marxism; ⑤ U.S. Super-imperialism and ⑥ Global Capital- ism. Finally, it evaluates them from the perspective of concretizing the system of the latter half of Marx’s planned six books on the critique of political economy.
