마르크스의 ‘세계’: 개념의 형성과 수용 － 그리고 전망

초록

이 논문은 마르크스의 ‘세계(경제/시장)’ 개념의 형성과 그것이 이후 마르크스주의자들에게 수용된 방식을 다룬다. 먼저 ‘형성’과 관련, 마르크스의 주된 관심이 철학에서 정치경제학으로 이동함에 따라 그의 세계 개념도 분석적 의의를 띄어 갔음을 확인할 것이다. 이는 곧 ‘세계(경제/시장)’가 자본주의 경제에 관한 마르크스의이론체계에서 통상적인 범주─비록 『자본론』에는 도입되지 않았지만─로 취급될것임을 의미한다. 다음으로 ‘수용’과 관련해서는, 마르크스주의 정치경제학에서 ‘세계’가 내내 핵심 범주로 여겨졌지만 그것을 마르크스의 생각에 맞게 그의 이론체계에 통합한다는 문제의식은 그렇게 뚜렷하지 않았음을 볼 것이다. 이렇게 된 원인으로 우리는 역사적 한계와 마르크스 문헌의 가용성 한계를 꼽을 것인데, 이러한 한계에도 마르크스의 세계경제론을 그의 방법에 맞게 구성하기 위한 시도도 있었음을음미하고 이론의 향후 발전 가능성을 가늠할 것이다.

Abstract

This article deals with the formation of Marx’s concept of the ‘world (economy/market)’, and its reception by subsequent Marxists. Regarding ‘formation’, it will be shown that Marx grants his concept with more analytical significance as his main field of interest moves from philosophy to political economy. This means that, in his mature theoretical corpus of the critique of political economy, the world (economy/market) is to be introduced as a normal category. However, in spite of the tremendous significance subsequent Marxists have assigned to the concept, they do not seem to be interested in reconstructing Marx’s theory to include the concept of the world in line with his sophisticated method. Two reasons for this will be highlighted: historical limitations and the limited availability of Marx’s key texts. Now that such limitations are largely removed, the prospect of a theory of the world economy based upon Marx’s critique of political economy will be elucidated in the concluding part.
