중화인민공화국의 역사는 파란만장하다. 크게는 마오쩌둥 시기와 덩샤오핑 시기로 나누고 전자를 혁명적 사회주의 또는 국가 사회주의, 후자를 중국 특색의 사회주의 또는 포스트사회주의라 할 수 있지만 그 연속성도 홀시할 수 없다. 체제 면에서‘1957년 체제’와 ‘6·4 체제’는 ‘일당독재’라는 점에서, 그리고 ‘공업화’라는 측면에서 지속성을 가지고 있다. 중국 특유의 반봉건·반식민 사회로부터 ‘중국적 사회주의’로 이행했다가 다시 ‘중국적 자본주의’로 이행하고 있는 중국을, 개혁개방 이후에 초점을 맞추어 ‘포스트사회주의’ 시야로 바라보는 것은 필요한 일이다. 이 글은 국가 사회주의로부터 포스트사회주의로의 이행이라는 관점에서 중화인민공화국의 역사를 고찰했다. 아리프 딜릭은 사회주의적 이상이 현실에서 실현 가능성이 배제된 상황에서, ‘사회주의가 자본주의와 결합한 상황’을 포스트사회주의로 설정하는 동시에 이를 ‘지구적 자본주의’와 대립하는 것으로 설정했다. 그러나 다른 논자들은 구체적인 통계수치에 근거해, 국가 사회주의를 국가 자본주의의 다른 표현으로규정하고 포스트사회주의를 지구적 자본주의의 하위 형태로 간주하고 있다. 중국은어디로 갈 것인가? 사회주의도 자본주의도 아닌 제3의 길은 가능한가? 사회주의와자본주의의 장점을 접합시킨 제3의 길은 가능할까? 논의의 핵심은 포스트사회주의를지구적 자본주의의 대립물로 볼지, 아니면 그것의 특수한 형태로 볼지의 문제일 것이다.
Abstract
The history of the People’s Republic of China is full of incident. We can divided it into Mao Zedong period and Deng Xiaoping period, and the former can be called revolutionary socialism or state socialism and the latter can be called Chinese characteristic socialism or post-socialism. In terms of regime, the ‘1957 regime’ and the ‘6.4 regime’ have persistence in terms of ‘one-party dictatorship’ and ‘industrialization’. It is necessary to view China as a ‘post-socialist’ perspective, focusing on reform and opening period, as China moves from the semi-colonial society to the ‘Chinese socialism’ and then into ‘Chinese capitalism’. This article examined the history of the People’s Republic of China from the viewpoint of transition from state socialism to post-socialism. This view is largely due to the discussion of Arif Dirlik. Dirlik set ‘post-socialism’ as a dimension that the idea of socialism cannot be accomplished and socialism combines with the capitalism. However, other authors, on the basis of specific statistics, define state socialism as a different expression of state capitalism and regard post-socialism as a sub-form of global capitalism. Where will China go? Is it possible that the third way is neither socialism nor capitalism? Is there a third way that combines the advantages of socialism and capitalism? The core of the discussion is the question of whether post-socialism is viewed as a confrontation of global capitalism or as its special form.
