주지하다시피 자본주의에 반대했던 마지막 전 지구적인 투쟁이라 할 68혁명이무엇보다 새로웠던 지점은, 공장과 노동자를 통해서만 대표되어왔던 그간의 교조적인 자본주의 비판에서 벗어나 누구나, 어디서나 일상생활의 모든 영역에서 일반적인 방식으로 비판이 가능하다고 인식시켰다는 것이다. 당시 관습적인 대표의 장치를 통하지 않고 삶의 모든 영역을 정치화시켜야 한다는 이러한 요구가 가장 적극적으로 표명된 장은 영화이론과 실천의 영역이었다. 그들은 무엇보다 영화를 정치화할 수 있는 새로운 언어를 발명하고자 하였다. 이는 모두 정치와 예술에서 기존의체제에 대한 부정의 문제라 할 수 있다. 현실적인 체제가 전부가 아님을 상기시키는부정성은 오늘날 68의 정신을 회고하고 그를 통해 새로운 운동을 도모하려는 정치철학이나 영화(예술)이론에서도 간헐적으로 찾아볼 수 있다. 그러나 부정성이라는 이념이 현실성과는 거리를 둔 채 모종의 내용 없는 형식이되고자 하는 요즈막 상황에서 그것은 그저 새로운 자본주의가 요구하는 부정으로손쉽게 전락하기 마련이다. 본 논문은, 그러한 자기동일적인 부정을 지속하려는 몸짓은 자본주의의 역사적 단계에 따른 효과라고 바라본다. 그리고 이러한 관점에서68의 부정성과 관련된 논쟁을 살펴보고, 그것이 동시대 영화이론에서 어떻게 반향되며 새롭게 전개되고 있는지 검토할 것이다. 결론적으로 본 논문은, 현실성이라는것이 그저 부정을 종합한 결과가 아니라 부정 그 자체가 실정적으로 전화한 것이라주장한다. ‘부정의 부정’이라는 해석은 부정성이 현실성, 나아가 역사와 어떻게 해후해야 하는지에 대한 일말의 실마리를 준다.
Abstract
As everyone knows, the novel point of May ’68, namely the last globalized fight against capitalism, was to suggest that it is possible to move from the traditional doctrinaire critique of capitalism, represented only by factories and laborers, to the fact that everybody can criticize all the areas of everyday life, regardless of social location. The politicization of all life was most positively reflected in film theory and its practice. Critics tried to find a new language that could politicalize cinema above all, negating existing systems of politics and art. This negativity, which suggested that the existing system is not-all, can be intermittently found in present political philosophy and film (art) theory which recalls the '68 spirit and then aims to create a novel movement through it. However, in the present situation the idea of negativity tries to keep its distance from actuality and become a certain content-less form, and May ‘68’s legacy can easily degenerate into a negativity needed by the new capitalism. This study perceives the gesture to keep up a self-identical negation as a capitalist’s historical stage-oriented effect. This study examines debates on the negativity of May ’68 and then looks into how the debates are reflected by contemporary film theory. In conclusion, This study argues that actuality is not merely a result of combining negative and positive but a positive form of negation itself. The term ‘negation of negation’ provides a clue that leads to how negativity must encounter actuality and then, eventually, with History itself.
