南冥 記文의 서술 방식과 의론 지향의 의미

본고는 남명 문학을 연구하는 방법에 있어서 개별 작품에 대한 논의로 집중할 것을 제안하고자 기획되었으며, 특히 남명의 산문 가운데 상대적으로 조명을 덜 받은 記文을 중심으로 접근해보고자 하였다. 이에 따라 남명의 기문 5편을 대상으로 개별 작품에 대한 재검토를 시도하였다. 남명의 기문은 작품 수가 상대적으로 많지 않기 때문에 본격적으로 조명되거나 주목받지는 않았다. 하지만 기문의 양식적 전통을 따르면서도 서술 방식의 측면에서 의론을 효과적으로 드러내기 위해 고심한 흔적이 발견된다. 5작품은 크게 보면 「행단기」, 「누항기」 / 「영모당기」, 「함허정기」, 「삼우당문공묘사기」로 구분할 수 있다. 「행단기」, 「누항기」는 상대적으로 대리상징적 인물을 등장시켜 그의 발화를 통해 남명이 작품을 통해 의론을 드러내되, 문답식 서술 방식을 차용한 특징이 두드러진다. 반면, 「영모당기」, 「함허정기」, 「삼우당문공묘사기」는 누정기라는 양식적 성격을 활용하여 특정한 주제를 표출한 작품으로 누정과 묘사라는 건축물을 겉으로 드러내되, 그것이 축조된 내력을 이야기하면서 인물을 견인하는 방식으로 기문을 서술해 나간다. 이때 남명이 궁극적으로 도달하고 싶은 목표는 바로 가족 구성원 사이를 끈끈하게 연결시키는 계기로 충과 효를 강조함으로써 일상적 인간의 본원적 가치를 강조하고자 했던 것으로 생각된다. 본고는 남명의 기문 5작품에 대해 개별적 성향을 주목하면서 이들이 같이 묶이는 총체성의 측면을 살펴보고자 했다. 이점은 본질적으로 그동안 남명학과 남명학파로 통칭되는 외연 확장에서 시각을 전환하는 것에 해당된다. 남명이 남긴 작품 하나하나를 면밀하게 살펴나가는 작업을 통해 남명학의 새로운 미래를 개척하는 방향을 탐색할 수 있을 것이며, 본고는 그 일환으로 작성되었다.
Abstract
This paper was designed to suggest focusing on discussions on individual works in the method of studying Nam-myeong literature, and in particular, it was intended to approach Nam-myeong’s prose, focusing on the relatively less illuminated text. Accordingly, a review of individual works was attempted for five articles of Nam- myeong’s Ki writings. Nam-myeong’s Ki writings were not illuminated or noticed in earnest because the number of works was relatively small. However, while following the stylistic tradition of writing, traces of struggle to effectively reveal the discussion in terms of the descriptive method are found. Five works can be classified into 「Haengdanki(杏壇記)」, 「Nuhangki(陋巷記)」, 「yeongmodangki(永慕堂記)」, 「Hamheojeongki(涵虛亭記)」, 「Samudangmungongmyosaki(三憂堂文公廟祠記)」 in a large way. 「Haengdanki(杏壇記)」 and 「Nuhangki(陋巷記)」 feature relatively representative symbolic characters, and Nam-myeong reveals his discussion through his work through his speech, but the characteristic of borrowing the question-and-answer descriptive method is outstanding. On the other hand, 「yeongmodangki(永慕堂記)」, 「Hamheojeongki(涵虛亭記)」 and 「Samudangmungongmyosaki (三憂堂文公廟祠記)」 are works that express a specific theme using the stylistic character of Nujeongki(樓亭記), revealing the architecture of Nujeong(樓亭) and Myosa(廟祠), but describing the character in a way that leads to the history of its construction. At this time, Nam-myeong’s ultimate goal is to emphasize the fundamental values of everyday human beings by emphasizing loyalty and filial piety as an opportunity to connect family members closely. This paper attempted to examine the aspect of the totality of Nam-myeong’s Ki writings five works, paying attention to their individual tendencies. This essentially corresponds to a shift in perspective from external expansion, which has been collectively referred to as Nam-myeong and Nam-myeong schools. Through the work of closely examining each work left by a master, you will be able to explore the direction of pioneering a new future of Nam-myeonghak, and this paper was written as part of that.
