俛宇 郭鍾錫의 論語 읽기-『茶田經義答問-論語』 분석을 중심으로-

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze Gwak, Jong-Seok(俛宇 郭鍾錫)s DajenGyongiyDapmoon NonOe(茶田經義答問 論語) and to elucidate the characteristics and meaning of this material. Gwak Jong-seok's research on Confucian classics has recently expanded from the Four Books, including Chunchu(春秋) etc. However, research on his Confucian classics and interpretations centered on DajenGyongiyDapmoon NonOe is still in its initial stages, and in-depth research on individual Confucian classics is relatively lacking. The DajenGyongiyDapmoon NonOe is a compilation of the contents related to the commentary on the Analects between Gwak Jong-seok and his disciples, and the analysis targets approximately 520 cases. The original text of this book is believed to be The NoneoJipjooDaeJeon(論語集註大全), and the analysis targets the scriptures, commentaries, and subcomments. In addition, he focused on a precise comparison with texts such as NoneoHogMoon(論語或問) and JujaEoryu(朱子語類) that have similar characteristics and contents to NoneoJipjoo. Therefore, it can be said that Gwak Jong-seok's interpretation of the Analects of Confucius is characterized by being based on the theory of Zhu Xi. He sometimes added his own novel interpretation to the parts that were not properly conveyed through the scriptures and Zhu Xi's commentaries. However, he did not strongly insist on his own new ideas, but maintained a somewhat subtle and critical attitude. It can be said that Gwak Jong-seok's Analects often focus on analyzing core Neo-Confucian vocabulary such as ‘IyGi’(理氣) and ‘SungJung(性情)’. In particular, he sometimes reflects the 'Xinjili(心卽理)' theory advocated by his teacher Lee Jin-sang in his interpretation of the Analects, and theories that were noteworthy in the history of Neo-Confucianism in the late Joseon Dynasty, such as the occurrence of IyGi and the presence or absence of ‘Sim(心)’, are shown in his commentary on the Analects.
