이 글은 제솝의 전략관계적 접근법을 재조명하고 그것이 마르크스주의 이론에서거둔 혁신을 제시한다. 첫째, 제솝의 전략관계적 국가이론이 통상적인 마르크스주의 국가이론을 포함한 종래의 다른 국가이론과 어떤 점에서 구별되는지 살펴보고, 제솝의 접근법이 이들과 뚜렷이 구별되는 제5의 국가론 패러다임이라는 것을 보인다. 둘째, 제솝의 전략관계적 접근이 마르크스의 미완성 프로젝트로서의 국가론을어떻게 계승하고 있는지 살펴본다. 셋째, 마르크스주의에서 전략관계적 접근이 이뤄낸 혁신을 사회적 관계로서의 국가, 현대 국가형태의 모순과 딜레마, 전략적 선택성, 문화정치경제학, 국가의 여섯 가지 차원 등의 개념을 통해 살펴본다. 넷째, 이러한 제솝의 접근이 마르크스주의 국가이론을 어떻게 재구성하는지를 정리하고 앞으로의 과제 몇 가지를 제시한다.
Abstract
This article reexamines Bob Jessop’s strategic-relational approach and highlights the innovations it has achieved within Marxist theory. First, it examines how Jessop’s strategic-relational approach to the state differs from conventional Marxist state theories and other existing state theories, demonstrating that Jessop’s approach constitutes a distinctive fifth paradigm of state theory that is clearly distinguished from these predecessors. Second, it explores how Jessop’s strategic-relational approach inherits and develops Marx’s unfinished project on state theory. Third, it examines the innovations that the strategic-relational approach has brought to Marxism through concepts such as the state as social relation, contradictions and dilemmas of modern state forms, strategic selectivity, cultural political economy, and the six dimensions of the state. Fourth, it shows how Jessop’s approach reconstructs Marxist state theory and presents several future research agendas.
