비혼 1인가구 여성의 비상품시장적 삶 생산은 가능할까?

본 논문은 이윤 축적과 이를 위한 상품 생산을 중심 가치로 두는 자본주의 시장체제 하에서 생활에 필요한 거의 모든 것을 ‘상품’으로 구매해 소비해야 하고 구매력을 가지기 위해서는 인간 자신도 상품을 생산하는 데 쓰일 ‘노동력 상품’으로 판매해야만 하는 구조가 궁극적으로는 삶의 자율성을 파괴하고 질을 악화시킬 뿐이라는 관점에서 출발을 한다. ‘삶 생산’이란 ‘직접적으로 삶을 창조, 재창조, 유지하는 데 쓰이며 다른 목적을 갖지 않는 모든 일’을 가리킨다. 비혼 1인가구 여성들은 대체로 임금노동자이며 생활시간의 대부분을 임금노동에 할애해야 하는 구조에서는 시간 빈곤에 빠지기 쉽고 이로써 삶을 생산하는 일을 외주화, 즉, 상품구매를 통해 해결할 수밖에 없는 순환구조에 빠지기 쉽다. 본 연구는 이에 주목하여 1인가구 생활을 하는 비혼 여성이 이 악순환구조를 넘어 비상품시장적 삶 생산을 할 수 있는 가능성이 있는지, 가능하다면 어떤 조건에서 가능한지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 1인가구생활을 자발적으로 선택해 대도시, 중도시, 농촌 등에 각각 거주하는 30~60대 비혼 1인가구 여성들을 만나 심층인터뷰하였다. 비혼1인가구생활과 비상품시장적 삶 생산은 현재도 제한적으로나마 공존 가능하지만 이를 위해서는 비상품시장적 삶 생산을 가능하게 하는 연결망에 적극적으로 접속되어 있을 필요가 있었다. 본 논문은 이 망을 ‘비상품시장적 삶 생산 연결망’이라 제시한다.
Abstract
This paper argues that under a capitalist market system that places profit accumulation and 'commodity production' as the central value, almost everything necessary for life must be purchased and consumed as 'commodities', and in order to have purchasing power, most of humans themselves must sell their 'labor power' to be used to produce goods. This paper bases on the perspective that the commodity oriented capitalism as for now ultimately destroys the autonomy of human life and only worsens its quality. ‘Life producing’ refers to ‘all work that is used directly to create, recreate, and maintain life and has no other purpose.’ Women in unmarried single-person households are generally wage workers, and in a structure where they have to devote most of their time to wage labor, it is easy for them to fall into time poverty and fall into a circular structure in which they have no choice but to outsource the work of producing life, that is, by purchasing products. Focusing on this, this study examined whether it was possible for unmarried women living in single-person households to overcome this vicious cycle and create a life outside the commodity market system, and if so, under what conditions. For this purpose, I conducted in-depth interviews with unmarried single-person household women in their 30s to 60s who voluntarily chose to live as a single-person household in large cities, mid-sized cities, and rural areas. I found that unmarried single-person household life and non-commodity market oriented life producing can coexist, albeit to a limited extent, but for this to happen, it was necessary to be actively connected to a social support network that practices the non-commodity market life producing. This network is presented as the ‘non-commodity market oriented life producing network’ in this paper.
