멀티미디어 데이터서비스는 음성서비스에 버금가는 보편적인 서비스로 성장하고 있다. 이에 음성서비스 위주로 이루어졌던 시스템 운영 및 설계를 위한 트래픽 엔지니어링 방법도 데이터 트래픽 특성에 적합한 새로운 방법이 요구되고 있다. 최근 연구에서는 데이터 트래픽의 가장 큰 특성으로 자기유사성(self-similarity)을 들고 있으며, 이와 관련하여 많은 확률이론 및 트래픽 모형 등 여러 가지 결과가 제시되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 현장에서 자기유사성 개념을 충분히 인식하고 관련 결과들을 적극적으로 활용할 수 있도록 기존의 연구에서 제시된 결과들을 체계적으로 분석, 분류 및 기술한다.
Abstract
The demand for multimedia data services is growing rapidly, and the multimedia services become the universal ones. This requires some traffic engineering methodologies reflecting the characteristics of multimedia data traffics which are different from the ones of the conventional voice traffics. A lot of work has been done in traffic analysis of multimedia traffics, and indicates the fact the main feature of multimedia traffics is the selfsimilarity. In this paper, we provide and classify the results given by the previous studies. The proposed state of the art gives the way of using these studies in the practical fields.
