Abstract
Presently, the world society is rapidly changing to a highly informative society based on the explosive worldwide spreading of the internet and the great increase of a wide range of information usage. This trend dominantly results from both the rapid development of digital technology and the broadband convergence of computer and digital communication technologies. In the area of TV broadcasting, the conventional analog transmission is gradually being replaced by the digital transmission at the domestic as well as abroad in the world. Especially, this digital broadcasting has a great interest as one of the suitable multimedia for the future due to its easiness and cheapness for broadcasting a wide range of information. In this paper, we overview briefly the various digital TV broadcasting technologies adopted in Europe, United States and Japan, and also discuss their major features.
