이 연구의 목적은 전남대학교에서 2006년 2학기 8개 단과대학 12개 교과를 대상으로 시범 실시한 ‘논술중심 전공 교과’의 운영을 평가하는 데 있다. 이 연구는 시범 운영에 참여한 교수 및 학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여, ‘논술중심 전공 교과의 참여 동기’, ‘수업 준비량’, ‘과제 및 피드백’, ‘교수ㆍ학생 간 상호작용’, ‘학습 성과’, ‘전반적 평가’ 등을 조사하였다. 연구 결과, ‘논술 중심 전공 교과’ 운영 전반에 대한 만족도는 교수 및 학생 모두 일반교과에 비해 상대적으로 높음을 확인할 수 있었다. 시범 운영을 통해 드러난 문제는 피드백 강화로 인한 교수의 수업 부담 가중, 과제 횟수 증대와 글쓰기에 대한 부담으로 인해 학생들의 ‘논술중심 전공 교과’ 선택 기피 현상 등이다. 이에 대한 대안으로 첨삭 지도 조교의 활용, 학과별로 필수 ‘논술 중심 전공’ 교과 개발 및 지정, 교과 운영과 평가 및 지원 업무 등을 담당할 수 있는 관리기구 설치 등을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The research evaluated writing intensive courses that were launched for the first time in Korea in twelve subjects from eight different colleges at Chonnam National University in fall 2006. Through employing a survey questionnaire, six research questions were examined including motivations, workloads for teaching the courses, assignments and feedback, interactions between instructors and students, learning achievements, and overall evaluation. The results revealed that students and professors showed positive response to the courses as they were intended. In particular, the overall satisfaction with the courses showed comparatively higher, compared with other courses, among both respondents. Several problems identified included heavy teaching workloads for providing feedback and students' reluctance to take the courses for the burden of assigned writings. The authors suggested alternatives for expanding and improving the courses, such as using teaching assistant for correction, implementing one or two required courses in each department, and creating a writing support system at university level to mange and evaluate the courses.
