대학 ‘글쓰기 센터’ 운영의 성과와 과제: 전남대학교 온라인 글쓰기 상담실 사례

이 연구의 목적은 대학에 설치된 ‘글쓰기 센터’의 운영 실태를 분석하여 향후 확대가 예상되는 대학 ‘글쓰기 센터’의 발전 방안을 제시하는 데 있다. 연구의 내용은 지난 4년 동안(2009-2012) 전남대학교 교수학습지원센터에서 운영한 <온라인 글쓰기 상담실>의 주요 성과를 규명하고, 운영 과정에서 확인한 문제에 대한 대안을 탐색한다. 주요 연구 방법인 질적 내용분석의 대상으로는 상담실에서 발간한 7권의 ‘온라인 글쓰기 상담실 운영 결과 보고서’를 활용했으며, 양적 방법으로는 학생들이 <온라인 글쓰기 상담실>을 이용한 후 제출하는 설문조사 결과를 분석했다. 연구 결과로 제시한 사례분석에서는 먼저 온라인 시스템 구축, 상담 도우미 선발 및 교육, 온라인 피드백 제공을 위한 상담 절차 및 운영 원칙의 관점에서 상담실 운영 과정을 구체적으로 진술했다. 주요 성과로는 4년 동안의 이용 현황 및 만족도와 상담 도우미 양성 결과를 체계적으로 분석하여 제시했다. 또한 <온라인 글쓰기 상담실> 운영 과정에서 확인한 예산 및 전문 인력 확보 문제와 그에 대한 대안을 자세하게 논의했다. 결론에서는 ‘글쓰기 센터’ 설립 및 운영에 대한 대학의 적극적 대응, 학부생 상담 도우미 활용에 대한 전향적 접근의 필요성을 제시했다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze how an online writing center works at the university level and suggest ways to develop a writing center to be expanded nationwide. This case study, having focused on the Online Writing Center(OWC, 2009-2012) at Chonnam National University(CNU), investigates major achievements the OWC has performed and explores alternatives to deal with problems identified. Through employing both qualitative content analysis and a survey questionnaire, the study first describes how the OWC has developed with respect to building an online system, training consultants, and offering online peer feedback including it’s principles and procedures. Then, the study demonstrates positive effects resulted from analyzing both the state of usage and the satisfaction of consulters. The study also discusses solutions to secure budgets and to employ professional consultants. In conclusion, the authors suggest that universities need more comprehensive and positive approaches to establish a writing center and to employ undergraduate students as a consultant giving a kind of peer feedback.
