Abstract
Remote medical systems combining information technology (IT) and medical technology are capable of early diagnosis and health monitoring in everyday life. An important requirement for developing such remote medical system is to enhance the accuracy of bio information and maximize the life time of the medical sensor. In this paper, we analyze structures and tasks of a medical sensor and derive why low power communication technologies are important. Simulation results show that the optimum protocol can be changed by the performance and power consumption of a wireless communication module and interference ratio. Hence, the MAC protocol has to use the adaptive frame transmission scheme according to the interference ratio to reduce the energy consumption.
