본 연구는 비장애 대학생의 장애에 대한 메타포 분석을 통해 주관적 인식을 살펴봄으로써 장애에 대한 사회적 인식을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 부산 소재 대학에 재학 중인 비장애 후기청소년들로부터 메타포를 수집하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 174개의 대표 메타포가 3개의 범주(사회적 존재로서의 장애인, 관념으로서의 장애인, 장애인으로서의 삶), 13개의 주제(돌봐주어야 할 존재, 우리와 똑같은 사람, 다양성의 인정, 어울림과 수용, 편견 없이 이해해야 하는 존재, 깨달음을 주는 존재, 편견과 차별의 대상, 관심을 갖지 않으면 알 수 없는 것, 노력과 극복, 누구에게나 생길 수 있는 것, 예측불허, 위태롭고 고단한 삶, 특별함과 잠재력을 지닌 존재)로 범주화되었다. 둘째, 연구 대상의 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 메타포의 차이를 분석한 결과 학년과 장애인 이해 관련 과목 수강 경험 유무에 따라 범주와 주제별로 차이를 나타내었다. 연구 결과를 통해서 비장애 대학생이 장애에 대해 장애인과 장애에 대한 관념, 장애인의 삶의 측면에서 다차원적으로 인식하고 있음을 알 수 있으며 앞으로 비장애인의 장애 인식 개선을 위한 교육 및 정책 방안 마련을 위한 기초자료로써 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine how undergraduate students without perceive disability, using a metaphor analysis. For Data collection, a short interview form was courses to reveal the perspectives of undergraduates in disability they have metaphorically identified in their minds. Data were collected from students without disabilities undergraduate students enrolled in two universities in Busan in South Korea. The metaphors were reviewed and then gathered similar concepts. Specifically, metaphors concerning disability were categorized into 174 metaphoric concepts, 13 themes, and 3 categories. Undergraduates at upper grade levels and those who took courses related to community service, personality, and special education had more positive perceptions on disability compared to those who were at lower grade levels and who did not take the above-mentioned courses. To foster positive perceptions on disability among undergraduates, topics such as equality, potential, and harmony, should intentionally be addressed in their education, which will help build up positive social perception and attitudes on disabilities and further help develop services and policies tailored to those with disabilities.
