Abstract
The purpose of this study has two prongs. First, it examines the extent to which the media is reflecting what actually happened in the prime minister confirmation hearings and identifies which aspects of the hearings the media pays more attention to. Second, it analyzes whether the ideologies of the media have a significant impact on their reporting on the confirmation hearings. The results indicate that the media is primed on the two aspects of the hearings: the nominees' immorality and corruption in their past public careers. The results also show that the ideologies of the media fail to make a significant difference in the contents of reporting on the hearings. Based on these findings, this study argues that the media's reporting on the hearings may lower the level of political trust among the public.
