Abstract
Issues dealing with women’s rights and safety require special attention from the perspective of human security considering the fact that women are more prone to suffer from physical, social, economic and political inequalities than men. It is therefore necessary to conduct an in-depth research on human security with the aim to fulfilling the needs and rights of women through relevant policies that deal with womens issues. In order to achieve this, the development of a theoretical and methodological framework and a strategic approach that elaborates womens security as a core component of human security is needed. In this context, this paper will first look into the originally established definitions of human security through the systematic relationship of security-human rights-women. Next, it will discuss the threat factors of fear and want that women are commonly faced with, along with particular emphasis on cases of humanitarian crisis situations and underdevelopment in Third World nations. Finally, the paper will evaluate the efforts of the international community (particularly the United Nations) in promoting womens rights and security and assess what might be possible solutions for the future.
