Abstract
This article aims to investigate whether South Koreans feel economic, food, health, environmental, personal, community, and political threats to their human security depending on their gender, age, education level, income level, and political orientation. For this study, first, the concept of securitization and human security will be introduced as a theoretical foundation. Then, using human security as the analytical framework, statistical analysis will be conducted using two survey data — the 2015 Asian Barometer Survey and the Pew Research Center Spring 2017 Global Attitudes Survey. One of the major findings of the empirical analysis is that women in South Korea were more likely to feel economic, environmental, personal, community, and political threats than men. Also, individuals with progressive politicalviews were more likely to have negative attitudes toward their economic and political security under the conservative administration. The significance of this study is that, through empirical analysis, it found the specific group of individuals within South Korea who are exposed to threats to their human security. Thus, finding ways to protect the vulnerable groups from threats they feel would be the path to achieving human security and positive peace in South Korea.
