Abstract

(Background and Purpose)The development of digital media and the spread of online consumption due to lifestyle changes are attracting attention as an experiential flagship store that can directly experience brand identity and value. In particular, in recent years, it has evolved into a complex cultural space in which culture and art are fused, expanding the scope of consumer experience. In this context, this study aims to provide basic data necessary for future flagship store planning by analyzing domestic and international experiential marketing-based flagship store cases and comparing and analyzing spatial characteristics and experience elements of complex cultural spaces. (Method)The research method consists of four steps. First, to examine the importance of experiential space in delivering brand identity and value, changes in marketing strategies were identified, and Schmitt’s experiential marketing theory was reviewed. Second, the concepts and characteristics of experiential marketing–based flagship stores and complex cultural spaces were examined to derive their common attributes. Third, selected cases were analyzed within the established theoretical framework, and the experiential marketing elements and spatial characteristics applied to each case were compared. Finally, the results of the case analyses were synthesized to draw conclusions applicable to future flagship store spatial planning. (Results)The analysis of seven experiential marketing–based flagship store cases revealed eight key characteristics of complex cultural spaces—artistry, symbolism, differentiation, accessibility, convergence, participation, experience, and sustainability—which were consistently expressed throughout the spatial composition. The brand’s philosophy and values were effectively conveyed through immersive and participatory experiences. First, artistry and creativity are reflected throughout the space to sensibly convey the brand's unique worldview and story. Second, community, exhibitions, experiences, and rest spaces are organically combined in a multi-layered fusion space composition. Third, relational marketing for social and cultural exchanges is actively being carried out through spatial strategies and SNS sharing based on locality and sustainability. Fourth, exhibitions using future-oriented technologies such as digital media and VR increase the immersion of the space and maximize the experience effect. (Conculation) The study confirms that flagship stores designed as complex cultural spaces are evolving into new types of brand platforms that embody locality, sustainability, and publicity while spatializing experiential marketing. The findings are expected to serve as a theoretical and practical foundation for future research on flagship store spatial planning and brand strategy.
