Abstract
There are a number of arson cases in which biological evidence was destroyed intentionally for the purpose of concealing crimes. It is important to find a valid biological evidence that can be DNA profiling for solving the case in arson sites. In this study, the quantity and quality of DNA and STR profiles were examined with respect to the distance(height) from the fire and surface material after extraction from the bloodstain in a chamber we made. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the closer the bloodstain to the ground of about 62 cm or less, and on the more porous material, the higher the possibility of successful STR profiling. The results in this study would help the crime scene investigators to collect biological samples suitable for DNA analysis at scenes of arson.
