Abstract

This study explored the aesthetics of locality expressed through place and dialect This is a new approach to investigate locality through the relation between 'dialect' which people get born and face to face with first and foremost, 'place' as a living social environment, and 'children's verse' recognized or alienated as a peripheral genre in authentic literary history. The children's verse of Lee Moon‐gu recreates the reality that is doomed to despair and dreams of future community where humanity is manifested through the state of coexistence where nature and human beings naturally coexist, criticism of capitalism and selfishness that breaks it, experience of childhood and customs, and the use of traditional rhythms, legends and tales. Ahn Haksoo's children's verse calls the lives of the tidal flats and shows their vitality through their native language and onomatopoeic‐imitative words. In addition, it symbolizes the difficult life of grandmother and grandfather who live in the market and the rural area, and reminds the importance of community breakdown and recovery. The language that makes up the children's verse affects children's linguistic sense and sensitivity. In the children's verse of Lee Moon‐gu and Ahn Hak‐su, language and place are closely related to the emotions and realities experienced by the artist and form the basis of their perception of existence. In this respect, the local vocabulary reproduced in these children's verse, and locatives and proper nouns of natural things centered on rural areas, especially the area of big streams, with a critical reflection on the present, give awareness of socio‐cultural common sense, and have the significance in showing the locality of the community.
