이 글은 신동엽 시에 나타나는 생태학적 인식을 믹 스미스의 ‘장소의 윤리’로 살핌으로써 ‘전경인’상을 실현할 수 있는 실천적 방법을 모색하기 위해 쓰였다. 신동엽은 ‘대지에 뿌리박은 대원적인 정신’을 발휘하는 ‘전경인’을 근대 문명이 야기하는 문제들로 인해 절망에 빠진 인류가 체득해나가야 할 상으로 제시한다. 믹 스미스가 급진적인 환경주의의 에토스로 제안한 ‘장소의 윤리’는 기존 제도에 포섭되지 않으면서도 지역성과 맥락의 중요성을 명확히 인지하고, 자연과 가까운 삶이 가진 가치를 추구한다는 차원에서 귀수성 세계를 향해 움직이는 전경인의 상과 닿아있다. 2장에서는 근대 체제가 유지되는 과정에서 대상화되고 도구적으로 사용되었던 존재가 인간을 어떻게‘있게 했는지(let be)’를 알게 해주는 관계성을 신동엽 시에서 드러나는 상황을 분석함으로써 인류의 역사가 다시 쓰이는 현장을 살핀다. 3장에서는 근대가 야기한 문제들로 인해 훼손된 삶의 형태가 훼손되었다고 여겨진 바로 그 장소와의 연결로 다시 회복되는 과정을 시에서 살핌으로써 장소의 윤리 실현이 곧 생태적인 실천으로 자리할 수 있음을 논증한다. 신동엽은 시가 ‘생명의 발현’으로 역할하기를 바라면서, 시 작품을 통해 인간과 자연이 동등한 관계를 맺는 행위자로 부상하는 윤리를 실현시킨다. 대지 위에 뿌리박은 전경인적인 시인과 철인은 생태 위기의 심각성이 대두되는 지금 우리가 수행해나가야 할 실천의 방향을 일러준다.
Abstract
This article was written to find a practical way to realize the ‘Jeon Kyung-In(全耕人)’ image by examining the ecological perception that appears in Shin Dong-yeop's poem with Mick Smith's ‘ethics of place.’ Shin Dong-yeop presents ‘Jeon Kyung-in,’ who exerts a ‘grand spirit rooted in the earth,’ as an award that mankind in despair should learn due to the problems caused by modern civilization. Mick Smith's ‘Ethology of Place,’ proposed as an ethos of radical ecologism, is in touch with the image of foresight moving toward the world of returning home in order to clearly recognize the importance of locality and context and pursue the values of life close to nature. Chapter 2 examines the scene where human history is rewritten by analyzing the situation revealed in the poem by Shin Dong-yeop, which shows how the objectified and instrumentally used beings ‘let be’ in the process of maintaining the modern system. Chapter 3 demonstrates that the realization of the ethics of places can become an ecological practice by examining the process of recovering from the connection with the very place where the damaged form of life was considered damaged by the problems caused in modern times. Shin Dong-yeop hopes that poetry will serve as the ‘expression of life,’ and realizes the ethics of emerging as actors in which humans and nature have an equal relationship through poetry. The foreground poet and philosopher rooted on the ground show the direction of practice that we should carry out now that the seriousness of the ecological crisis is emerging.
