‘어떻게’의 의미와 품사적 지위에 대한 고찰

본 연구는 200만 어절 규모의 균형 말뭉치에서 ‘어떻게’가 포함된 용례의 사용 양상을 분석하여 ‘어떻게’의 의미와 기능을 고찰한 것이다. 그 결과‘어떻게’는 기본적으로 의문사, 부정사로 쓰여 방법이나 수단, 과정, 배경, 이유, 결과 등과 관련된 내용을 나타내기도 하지만 이러한 의미가 확장되어 맥락에 따라 다양한 의사소통 기능을 하는 것을 밝혔다. 이 논문의 핵심은‘어떻게’가 나타내는 새로운 의미를 발견하여 독립된 부사로 제시할 것을 주장한 것이다. 의문문에서 쓰이는 용법과 달리‘어떻게’가 ‘-는지’, ‘-던지’와 함께 쓰여 상태나 정도가 대단함을 나타내는 것을 실제 용례를 통해 확인하였다. 이는‘얼마나’, ‘어찌나’와 유의 관계의 어휘로 볼 수 있어 ‘어떻게’를 독립적인 부사로서의 지위를 확인하는 근거가 됨을 밝혔다. 본고는 ‘어떻게’의 사용 양상 분석을 통해 새롭게 발견한 의미와 용례를 제시하여 학습 자료에 반영할 것을 제안하였다는 점에서 의의가 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study examined the meaning and function of ‘eotteohge’ by analyzing the usage patterns of examples containing ‘eotteohge’ in a balanced corpus of 2 million words. As a result, it was confirmed that ‘eotteohge’ is basically used as an interrogative or infinitive to express content related to method, means, process, background, reason, result, etc. In addition, it was revealed that this meaning was expanded and combined with various linguistic forms depending on the context to perform a communicative function. The core of this paper is to discover a new meaning of ‘eotteohge’ and to present it as an independent adverb. It was confirmed through actual usage examples that, unlike its usage in interrogative sentences, ‘eotteohge’ is used together with ‘-neunji’and ‘-deonji’ to indicate that the state or degree is great. This can be seen as a vocabulary that has a similar relationship with ‘eolmana’and‘eojjina. And it was revealed that ‘eotteohge’ can also serve as a basis for confirming its status as an independent adverb. This paper will be meaningful in that it suggests newly discovered meanings and usage examples through analysis of the usage patterns of ‘eotteohge’ and suggesting that they be reflected in learning materials.
