Abstract
Jipo(止浦) KimGu(金坵: 1211-1278) was a literary figure active in the 13th century, known for his exceptional contributions to literature. This is confirmed through mentions by later Goryeo period writers such as Lee Jehyeon(李齊賢) and early Joseon writers Seo Geojeong (徐居正) and Eo Sukgwon (魚叔權). In addition, the excellence of Jipo 's literature can be proven by the fact that there are 86 poems of Jipo in Dongmunseon(東文選), a selection of famous Korean writers published during the Joseon Dynasty. Notably, a significant portion of the writings included in Dongmunseon(東文選) consists of diplomatic documents, indicating Ji-po's prominent role as a diplomat of his time. The poet Lee Gyubo, a representative figure of the military dictatorship period, recommended Choi Ja and Kim Gu to succeed him as ‘Munhyeong(文衡; a position that serves as a scale to properly evaluate the scholarship of the whole country)’. This also gives us an idea of Kim Gu's status in the 13th century Goryeo literary circle. In terms of academic lineage, he is known to be a disciple of Kim Ingyeong (金仁鏡) and was widely recognized as a representative figure of the 13th-century Goryeo literary and academic circles, extending into the Joseon period. In particular, Kim Gu's works such as ‘Chulsae(出塞)’, ‘Gwacheolju(過鐵州)’, ‘Bunsuryungdojung(分水嶺途中)’, and ‘Gwaseogyeong(過西京)’ hold significant literary historical importance in the context of the emergence and development of the ‘Byeonsaeshi(變塞詩)’. Although only twelve classical Chinese poems are preserved in the collection, their content and stylistic aspects clearly demonstrate how exceptional Kim Gu was in this genre. In conclusion, from a literary historical perspective, Kim Gu can be seen as a successor to Lee Gyubo, active alongside figures such as Choi Ja, Lee Seunghyu, and Lee Jangyong, with his literary legacy being carried on by the next generation, including Lee Jehyeon, An Chuk, and Hong Gan. In other words, we can position Kim Gu as a representative of the late 13th-century Goryeo literary scene between the first half of the 13th century, represented by Lee Kyubo, and the first half of the 14th century, represented by Lee Jehyeon.
