이 연구는 영재교육의 현장에서 영재교사들이 인식하고 있는 영재교육의 현황을 알아보고, 영재교육을 시행함에 있어 장애로 작용하고 있는 요인들을 알아봄으로써 앞으로 개선되어야 할 영재교육의 영역과 방향을 제시하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 결과 첫째, 영재교사들은 교과 영역 측면의 지도나 지적으로 우수한 영재아동의 판별 등 5개 영역은 보통 이상(M≧3.00)의 수준으로 운영되고 있다고 평가했으나 평균 4점 이상의 항목은 존재하지 않았다. 반면 미성취 영재를 위한 교육과정 차별화, 잠재적 영재를 위한 판별과 프로그램 제공, 일반교사들과 협동 교수 실시 등 나머지 17개 영역은 보통 이하(M<3.00)의 수준으로 운영되고 있는 것으로 인식되었다. 둘째, 효율적인 영재교육 운영에 있어 장애로 작용하는 요인들을 영재교육의 운영 영역에 따라 분석해 본 결과, 지적, 창의적 영재 판별은 프로그램 및 평가도구의 미비가, 잠재적 영재의 판별 및 프로그램 제공은 교육청의 정책이, 교과 영역의 지도는 영재교사의 전문성이 주요 장애요인으로 제시되는 등 각 운영 영역별 주요 장애요인이 도출되었다. 셋째, 영재교육 운영의 장애 요인에 대한 전체 응답수를 분석한 결과, 전체적으로 업무과다 또는 시간부족 요인이 21.7%로 가장 높게 나타났고, 다음으로 프로그램 및 평가도구의 미비(19.6%), 영재교사의 전문성(13.6%), 교육청의 정책(12.8%) 등이 상대적으로 높게 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 영재교육 운영 전반에 걸쳐 실질적인 검토가 이루어져야 하고, 이를 바탕으로 많은 부분의 개선과 지원이 필요함을 보여주었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore gifted education teachers' perception on the operating status and to find out the obstacles of the current gifted education operation. For the study, 102 gifted education teachers participated in the survey. The results of the study were as follows. First, concerning the operating status of gifted education, gifted education teachers perceived the services related identification of the intellectually and creatively gifted, working with gifted students in content areas, and developing academic methods and materials for the gifted working above the average level. But the other 17 out of the 22 areas related to the current gifted education practices were rarely or never provided. In particular, the services related to differentiation for gifted students with learning disabilities or emotional/behavioral disorders, differentiation for underachieving gifted students, and cooperation with general education teachers were almost never provided. Second, concerning the barriers of gifted education, barriers related to the overwork and lack of time were reported most often. However, different services were most impacted by different barriers. For example, the services most impacted by cost barrier were to facilitate school-wide events and extra-curricular activities for the gifted; while services most impacted by policy barrier were to work with students not formally identified. Implications of the study related to the gifted education practices and future directions were discussed in depth.
