유아기에 습득하게 되는 기본생활습관은 몸으로 체득되어지는 것이기 때문에 유아가 성인으로 성장하는 과정에서 지속적으로 나타나게 된다. 따라서 유아의 기본생활 습관은 향후 유아가 문화시민으로서의 자질을 형성하느냐 하지 못하느냐의 중요한 관건이 되기도 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 유아들이 문화시민으로서 익혀야 할 기본생활 습관의 다섯 가지 덕목을 토대로 개발된 유아용 동화교재만을 활용한 집단과 교재뿐 아니라 행동적 표현을 통해 기본생활습관을 익히도록 한 집단을 비교하여 특정 연령대에서 어떤 교육이 보다 효과적인지를 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과, 만 5세 유아에 있어서는 친절, 질서, 청결에서 만 4세 유아는 친절, 질서, 생명존중의 영역에서 교재 뿐 아니라 행동적 표현을 통한 학습이 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
Basic life habits are formed in early childhood. These habits naturally grow upon preschoolers and are maintained into adulthood. Therefore, whether young children develop good cultural citizenship is largely reliant on their basic early life habits. The purpose of this study was to examine which of two different teaching methods would have a better effect on preschoolers. One method utilized particular fairy tales for preschoolers only as teaching materials. The selected fairy tales were designed to deal with five virtues that young children must acquire as the basic life habits of cultural citizens. The other method was instructing basic life habits by utilizing the teaching materials and providing behavioral instruction at the same time. The experiment found that the second teaching method that employed the teaching materials and offered behavioral instruction was more effective at educating the preschoolers of five years in Western age in the areas of friendliness, order, and cleanliness. This method also had a better effect on teaching young children of four years in Western age in the categories of friendliness, order, and reverence for life.
