Abstract
This study examined generational differences in internet use capability and use of mobile ICT services. We analyzed the mediation effects of internet use capability on the use of mobile ICT services. We also analyzed data from the 2018 Digital Divide Survey using a sample of 5513 adult consumers. Factor analysis, regression analysis, Simultaneous equation model analysis was conducted; direct and indirect effects of independent variables were tested using the bootstrap method. The major results were as follows: First, mobile ICT services were classified into the six categories: social participation, life convenient services, knowledge & information exchange, economic activity, producing & sharing contents, and e-government. Second, generational internet usage capability is highest in the order of Generation Z, Millennial, Generation X, and Baby Boomers. Third, generational differences in internet use capability were significantly associated with the intention to use mobile ICT services. And therefore, the internet use capability mediated the relationship between the generation and use of mobile ICT services. A significant direct effect of generation on the use of ICT services indicated that the internet use capability and meeting the generational specific demand and preference on ICT services is essential to expand the use of ICT services.
