배우자 사망과 자살: 시도별 패널자료를 이용한 분석

초록

자살이 심각한 사회적 문제로 대두되면서 무엇이 자살을 유발하는지에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되었고 이를 바탕으로 자살을 예방하기 위한 다양한 정책적인 방안들이 논의되었다. 우리 나라는 경제적 요인보다는 인구사회학적 요인들이 자살에 상대적으로 더 큰 영향을 주는 것으 로 나타난다. 본 연구는 인구사회학적 요인들 중 배우자 사별이 자살에 미친 영향을 광역시도 별 패널자료를 이용하여 거시적으로 분석하였다. 관측 불가능한 이질성 및 지역별 자살률의 상태의존성을 통제하고자 동태적 패널 모형을 사용하여 사별률과 자살률 간의 관계를 파악하 였다. 분석결과는성별및연령에따라상이했다. 60세이상고령남성의경우사별률이자살 률을 높였으나 20-59세 청·장년층 남성에게서는 유의한 효과를 확인하지 못하였고, 여성은 전 연령층에서 자살률과 사별률 간에 유의한 관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 사별률 과 자살률 간의 관계를 처음으로 분석하였다는 점에서 그 의의가 있으며, 연구 결과는 우리나 라의 자살문제를 보다 폭넓게 이해하는데 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

Abstract

In this study, I investigated the relationship between spousal bereavement and suicide rate in Korea based on province-level data from 1991-2017. I also examined whether the relationship differed depending on demographic characteristics such as sex and ages. A dynamic panel model was used to control the states dependence and unobserved heterogeneity. The results of the analysis differed by sex and ages. Spousal bereavement rates were positively and significantly related to suicide rates for old males, but no significant association was found for females and males under age 60.
