Abstract
In an attempt to extend the line of research on consumer attitudes toward interactive advertising, this study builds on technological acceptance model to propose a modified model to systematically explain users' intention to accept IPTV advertising. In doing so, this study adds social influence and personal innovativeness to the study model based on a review of previous findings from TAM-based research. Then, the model is tested by structural equation modeling approach. The results from an one-to-one survey with a national sample of 1,011 IPTV subscribers show that TAM's key variables, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, have a causal effect on intentions to accept IPTV advertising. In addition, social influence and personal innovativeness significantly affect intentions to accept IPTV advertising. Interestingly, this study finds a mediating effect of perceived usefulness on the relationship between social influence and intentions. Also, perceived ease of use plays a mediating role in explaining the relationship between personal innovativeness and intentions. Some theoretical and practical implications are discussed in conjunction with the TAM's original propositions as well as the study's contributions.
