본 연구는 유아기 자녀를 둔 부모들의 부모됨에 대한 생각과 자녀 양육과정에서의 다양한 경험 등을탐색함으로써 자녀 양육에 대해 다각적으로 이해하고 부모로서의 삶에 대한 의미를 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 유아기 자녀를 둔 부모 8명을 대상으로 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집⋅분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 부모들은 부모가 된다는 것이 참되고 성숙한 어른이 되어가는 과정이고, 작은 사회를 만드는것이며, 무한한 책임감을 갖게 하고, 인내와 희생이 따르지만 사랑으로 충분히 감당할만한 것이라고 여기고 있었다. 둘째, 자녀 양육에서 즐거움을 느끼는 측면은 다양한 삶의 경험을 함께 할 때, 아이가 행복해할 때, 건강하게 잘 자라줄 때, 날마다 새롭게 변화하는 모습을 볼 때였으며, 어려움을 느끼는 측면은 감정조절, 몸과 마음의 지침, 훈육, 올바른 양육관 유지였고, 이러한 어려움을 극복하는 전략은 마인드컨트롤, 효율적인 시간관리, 양육지식 함양, 권위있는 전문가의 조언이었다. 이러한 결과는 부모가 된다는 것은 당면한 모든 어려움을 감내할만큼의 충분한 가치가 있으며, 부모들은 그 어려움을 극복해가는 과정 속에서 더욱 성숙한 사회구성원이 되어가고 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study aimed to gain a comprehensive understanding of parenting and to explore the meaning of parenthood by examining the perspectives and diverse child-rearing experiences of parents with young children. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with eight parents, and the collected data were analyzed qualitatively. The findings are as follows. First, parents perceived parenthood as a process of becoming a morally mature adult, forming a small society, assuming immense responsibility, and sustaining commitment through love, despite the patience and sacrifice required. Second, the aspects of parenting that brought joy included sharing diverse life experiences, witnessing the child’ s happiness and healthy growth, and observing the child’ s daily changes and development. In contrast, difficulties included challenges with emotional regulation, physical and mental fatigue, parental discipline, and maintaining consistent parenting beliefs. Strategies to overcome these difficulties involved practicing self-control, managing time efficiently, gaining parenting knowledge, and seeking advice from trusted parenting experts. These findings suggest that parenthood carries inherent value sufficient to outweigh its challenges, and that parents gradually develop into more responsible members of society through the process of overcoming these difficulties.
