Abstract
Since the 2015 Revised National Curriculum introduced the principle of "guiding instruction by considering intra- and inter-disciplinary content linkages to foster students' integrative thinking," the 2022 Revised Curriculum has continued to emphasize the importance of structuring lessons that reflect interdisciplinary linkages. This study aligns with these curricular directions by designing an interdisciplinary lesson that integrates Korean literature and Chinese languageⅠ for second-year students at a specialized high school. Focusing on "classical Chinese characters", which was identified as a common obstacle to students’ learning motivations in both subjects, this study developed an instruction and assessment framework based on a bottom-up approach, using three classical Korean literary texts as core materials. In the Korean literature class, students reinterpreted Gongmudohaga and Hwangjoga by rewriting the texts from different narrative perspectives. In the Chinese language class, students translated these reinterpretations into Chinese, focusing on pronunciation, Chinese character recognition, and relevant cultural background knowledge. Additionally, after the literature class exploring Jeolmyeongsi, a literary work from the Japanese colonial period, the Chinese language class continued with a study of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in China, prompting students to better understand historical Korea-China relations. The intertwined nature of curriculum and textbook analysis as well as class planning between the two subject teachers provided a meaningful opportunity for professional growth. Ensuring a meaningful class for students, in-depth interviews and surveys will be conducted to assess effectiveness and educational impact. In an educational landscape where personalized learning experience is increasingly important, this study underscores the importance of analyzing the characteristics of learners, schools, and subjects in detail and continuously exploring context-specific instruction planning. Future research should focus on developing customized interdisciplinary lessons that reflect individual learning ability and styles, thereby creating more effective and sustainable learning environments.
