모의 우울이 청소년 우울에 미치는 영향 : 사회적 관계의 보상효과 검증

초록

본 연구의 목적은 청소년이 맺는 사회적 관계(또래관계, 선생님관계)가 어머니 우울이 청소년 우울에 미치는 부정적 영향을 완충하는 보상효과가 있는지 검증하는데 있다. 이를 위해 한국복지패널 4차년도 응답자 중 어머니와 청소년자녀 자료를 결합한 441개 쌍체자료를 이용하여 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청소년 우울은 청소년의 성별, 성적, 어머니의 교육수준, 빈곤여부에 따라 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 여학생일수록, 성적이 낮을수록, 어머니의 교육수준이 높을수록, 저소득층 가구일수록 청소년 우울은 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 인구통계학적 변수와 부모-자녀관계 변수를 통제한 상태에서 어머니의 우울은 청소년 우울에 정적(+)으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 어머니 우울이 청소년 우울에 미치는 영향은 청소년의 또래관계, 선생님관계의 수준에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 먼저 어머니 우울이 낮은 경우에 긍정적 또래관계는 청소년 우울을 급격히 감소시키지만, 어머니 우울이 높은 경우 또래관계가 좋더라도 청소년 우울을 감소시키는 보상효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 선생님관계의 경우, 어머니 우울이 낮을 때 선생님관계에 따른 청소년 우울의 차이는 거의 없지만, 어머니 우울이 높은 경우 높은 수준의 선생님관계와 상호작용하여 청소년 우울을 감소시키는 보상효과가 검증되었다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의 및 후속연구에 대한 제언이 논의되었다.

Abstract

This study examined how maternal depression affected adolescent depression, with a focus on the compensatory effect of adolescents’ social relationships with friends and teachers. The data for the analysis were the fourth wave of Korean Welfare Panel Study(KWPS) data including 441 households with adolescents. T-test, ANOVA, and Multiple regression analyses were used for the data analysis. The results of this study were as follows. First, adolescent depression was differed according to sex, academic achievement, educational attainment of mother, and household income. Second, after controlling for sex, academic achievement, educational attainment of mother, household income, and parent-child relationship, maternal depression was associated with higher adolescent depression. Third, peer relationship and teacher-student relationship buffered the relationship between maternal depression and adolescent depression. In terms of a compensatory effect, adolescents under high maternal depression receiving greater support from teacher exhibited lower depression. The current study highlights the importance of adolescents' social relationship to attenuate the negative effect of maternal depression. Finally, the implications and suggestions for the future study were discussed.
