본 연구는 한국에서 초로기치매를 앓는 배우자를 돌보는 남편들의 수발경험의 의미와 본질을 밝힘으로써 그들 경험에 대해 보다 풍부한 이해를 하는 것이다. 연구방법은 Colaizzi의 현상학적 연구방법을 사용하였다. 연구 참여자는 알츠하이머형 초로기치매로 진단을 받은 부인을 최소 3년 이상 수발해 온 6명의 남편수발자였다. 자료수집방법은 심층면담을 사용하였다. 자료의 분석은 Colaizzi가 제시한 6단계들에 의거하였으며 연구 결과, 경험의 본질적 구조로서 15개의 주제와 5개의 주제묶음을 도출하였다. 최종적으로 도출된 경험의 5가지 주제묶음은 ‘아내의 병 인식과정의 어려움’, ‘남편이자 부모로서 감수해야 하는 수발의 고통’, ‘경제적 타격과 일에 대한 갈망’, ‘자기변화와 사회적 지지체계를 통한 적응’, ‘합리적이고 특화된 서비스에 대한 욕구’ 등이다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 한국의 독특한 사회문화적 맥락 속에서 초로기치매배우자를 돌보는 남편들의 수발경험의 의미를 사회복지와의 관련성 속에서 깊이 있게 논의하고 마지막으로 사회복지적 함의와 사회복지실천을 위한 제언을 하였다.
Abstract
This research is to understand the meaning and essence of the caregiving experience of husbands with spouses who are suffering from presenile dementia in Korea in order to fully understand their experiences. This research utilized Colaizzi's phenomenological research method. Research participants were six husbands who have taken care of their spouses diagnosed with Alzheimer type presenile dementia for over 3 years. In-depth interview was utilized in collecting data. Data analysis was based on the 6 steps presented by Colaizzi. According to the research result, we have derived 15 themes on the essential structure of experience and 5 theme clusters. The final 5 theme clusters that were derived are as the following: difficulty in cognizing their wife's disease, agony of caregiving as a husband and parent, economic damage and desire to work, adaptation through self-change and social supporting organizations, and the need for rational and specialized services. Based on the research result, we have discussed the relation between social welfare and the caregiving experience of husbands with spouses suffering from presenile dementia in the unique socio-cultural Korean context, and lastly made suggestions for social welfare and social welfare practice.
