Abstract
The purpose of this case study was to analyze how elementary early grade students revise their texts, what elements affect their revision, and what their difficulties are in revision performance. The researcher analyzed three second grade students' in-draft revision and between-drafts revision to see surface changes and text-base changes. Also, revisions affected by genre and those not affected by genre were distinguished. Results from the study showed are as follows. Students' most frequent revision type was surface-changes. And most of revised units were shorter than sentence unit. After finishing revising, students couldn't find out problems in their writing. But there were still problems in their writing. Students' difficulties in diagnosing all parts to be revised are attributed to their shortage in ability in discovering the problems in their writings and in revising those problems properly. Although the students were young children, they were aware of 'audience'. This tendency was noticeable in story writing. Each students' conceptions about writing genre and revision method dependent on genres were different. For instance, some students focused more on accuracy, the other revised contents according to their conceptions about writing genre. Revision is useful strategy to help students control their writing process reflectively and to increase students' writing ability. We must consider students' revision characteristics to help them write more critically and creatively in the future.
