Abstract
The purpose of this study is to summarize the origins and characteristics of the five-paragraph theme, and to discuss the aspect of writing education using five paragraphs. Reviewing the previous studies, the concept, features, and usefulness of the five-paragraph theme were investigated. Those findings are necessary to understand the aspects and implications of the five-paragraph structure in writing education in today’s world. This study explores the limitations and usefulness of the five-paragraph theme and suggests what to consider in Korean writing education and in future research.
