한국 사회에 다양한 이주배경을 가진 이주민이 증가하면서 부모를 따라 이주한 중도입국 아동의 수도 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 중도입국 아동들을 대상으로 이들의 초기 적응과 적응에 영향을 주는 주요 사회환경인 가족, 학교, 그리고 또래 관계를 중심으로 경험의 양상을 탐색하고, 중도입국 아동의 특성에 맞는 적응 지원 전략과 서비스의 방향성을 모색하고자 한다. 이를 위해 개별 심층면접과 포커스 집단 면접(FGI) 방법을 활용하여 중국 출신 중도입국 아동 12명과 전문가 3명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과로는 “한국으로의 이주와 삶의 변화”, “함께여도 여전히 부재중인 가족”, “학교에서 소통과 관계의 장벽”, “삶의 중요한 지지 체계인 출신국 친구들”, “아동의 건강한 성장을 위한 지원의 필요성” 등 5개의 범주가 도출되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 중도입국 아동의 초기적응을 지원할 수 있는 정책 및 실천적 방안을 제언하였다.
Abstract
With the increasing number of immigrants from diverse backgrounds in Korea, there is a simultaneous rise in the population of immigrant children who were born abroad and have migrated after their adaptation and the influences of social environments--family, school, and peer relationships. The study seeks strategies and directions for adaptation support services tailored to the characteristics of immigrant children born abroad. Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews and focus group interviews involving 12 immigration children from China and three experts. The results revealed four themes: “migration to Korea and life changes,” “absent family despite staying together,” “communication and relationship barriers in school,” “friends from the country of origin as crucial support systems in life” and “the need for support for healthy child growth”. Based on these findings, policy and practical recommendations to support the initial adaptation of immigrant children born abroad are proposed.
