중도입국 청소년의 또래관계 경험에 대한 탐색적 연구: 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 청소년기에 중도입국 하는 이주배경 청소년의 또래관계 경험에 대하여 알아봄으로써, 건강한 또래관계 형성에 영향을 미치는 요인 및 요구를 탐색하여 긍정적인 문화적응 과정을 조력할 수 있는 상담 조력체제 마련의 기초자료를 제시하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 연구문제는 ‘중도입국 청소년의 이주과정에서 또래관계 경험내용은 무엇인가?’, ‘또래관계에서 도움이 되는 점은 무엇인가?’, ‘또래관계에서 어려운 점은 무엇인가?’, ‘또래관계에서 바라는 점은 무엇인가?’ 이다. 연구대상은 이주배경 청소년 지원 기관과 중도입국 청소년 교육 기관에서 제공하는 이주배경 청소년 프로그램에 참여한 중도입국 청소년 16명이었으며, 이들을 대상으로 본 연구진의 연구자 1명과 주제에 관심이 있는 박사과정생 1명이 포커스 그룹인터뷰를 실시하였다. 인터뷰 내용은 모두 녹음하여 전사한 후, 연구자들이 이 자료를 의미범주로 분류하였고 의미범주에 해당하는 하위 내용들을 분석, 분류하였다. 분석결과 4개의 주제와 13개의 의미범주와 25개의 하위내용이 추출되었다. 4개의 주제는 이주과정에서의 또래관계 경험내용, 이주 후 또래관계 형성의 도움요인, 이주 후 또래관계 형성의 위험요인, 또래관계에서 바라는 점이며, 이에 따른 의미범주와 하위범주내용은 또래관계 형성에 도움이 되는 요인으로는 주로 다양성과 차이점을 수용하는 개방적 시각, 또래관계 형성을 위한 개인적 노력 등이며 또래관계 위험요인의 하위범주내용은 한국인의 부정적 시각 인식, 또래와의 지속적 만남 어려움, 언어적 제약, 폐쇄적 태도로 나타났다. 이외 또래관계에서 바라는 점으로는 다양한 또래관계 경험을 원하고, 먼저 이주경험한 선배의 도움으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 통해 중도입국 청소년의 또래관계 측면에서 필요로 하는 상담조력 서비스 내용을 밝히고, 중도입국 청소년의 사회문화적 적응을 지원하는 다문화상담의 기초자료를 제시하였으며, 제한점과 앞으로의 과제에 대해 논의하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to support migrant youths, who came back to their home country after spending some time abroad. The study mainly strives to delve into their peer relationship experience in order to support the adaptation period the migrant youth must face with in order to readapt to Korean society. The research questions are ‘What do the migrant youth experience in the peer relationship?’, ‘What are the helpful factors in the peer relationship?’, ‘What are the risk factors in the peer relationship?’, and ‘What do you need in the peer relationship?’. The participants of this study were 16 migrant youths who joined the adolescent program provided by Foundation for Youth with Migrant Background Education Center. One researcher from this study and one doctoral student who is interested in this study conducted the focus group interview. The interviews were all recorded, have transcribed and the researchers categorized the data according to the semantical contents and analyzed the content according to their meanings. Data analysis resulted in 4 main themes, 13 semantic categories, and 25 subcategories. The 4 main themes are the peer experiences in the immigrant process, the helpful factors of the peer relationship after immigration, the risk factors of the peer relationship after immigration, and the needs of immigrant youth in the peer relationship. The helpful factors are the open points of view that accept the differences and personal efforts for making friends. The risk factors are the negative perspective of Koreans, the lack of opportunity to meet Korean friends, the language barrier, and the closed attitudes. The needs are the opportunities to meet Korean friends and the supports of the previous immigrant youth. To conclude, this study revealed the core contents of counseling service for migrant youths to aid their peer relationship. Furthermore, the study provided fundamental data for supporting immigrant youth to adapt into the new culture. Limitations of the current study and implications for future research are provided.
