신문의 이념적 성향에 따른 보도사진의 프레임 연구 : 사회운동을 중심으로

본 연구는 사회운동의 보도를 통해 신문의 보도성향에 따른 기술적 차이와 이념적 프레임 형성에 대해 고찰했다. 이를 위해 보수언론으로 ≪조선일보≫, ≪중앙일보≫, ≪동아일보≫를, 진보언론으로 ≪한겨레≫, ≪경향신문≫을 선택하였다. 2015년도 민중총궐기 투쟁대회가 일어난 날로부터 일주일간 이와 관련된 62건의 보도사진 기사를 분석하였다. 분석은 기술적 분석, 내용적 분석을 포함하여 7개로 분류한 프레임을 통해 진행하였다. 분석결과, 첫째, 기술적 분석인 보도사진의 구도와 보도사진의 시각에서 사용 정도의 차이는 없었다. 하지만 같은 보도사진 시각을 다른 대상에게 사용하여 그 목적에서 차이가 있었다. 보수 언론은 보도사진 시각을 통해 입원한 경찰을 나약하게 보이게 하고 폭력 시위자를 위협적으로 전달하였으며, 진보 언론은 보도사진 시각을 통해 물대포를 맞는 시위대를 나약하게 표현하고 시위에 나선 언론 단체 회원들을 강하게 표현하였다. 둘째, 언론의 보도 성향에 따라 자신의 신문사와 일치하는 성향의 프레임을 형성하는 모습을 보였다. 특히 보수 언론에서는 ‘폭력난동 프레임’이 가장 많았으며, 진보 언론에서는 ‘과잉 대응 프레임’이 가장 많았다. 본 논문에서는 신문의 보도성향에 따라 보도사진을 통해 프레임을 형성함을 보여주고자 한다.

Abstract

The primary goal of this study was to examine technical differences and ideological frames according to the coverage tendencies of newspapers in reporting the event of social movements. For that purpose, the study chose Chosun Ilbo, Joongang Ilbo, and Donga Ilbo as conservative newspapers and Hankyoreh and Kyunghyang as progressive newspapers. This present study analyzed 62 news photo articles issued for a week from the day of People's General Rebellion rally in 2015. The seven frames were found from the technical and content analysis. The results in detail were as follows: first, the technical analysis found no differences in the degree of using news photo compositions and viewpoints. However, there were differences of purposes for newspapers in reporting the same news photo viewpoints applied to different objects. While the conservative newspapers used a news photo viewpoint to make the hospitalized police officer weak and depict the violent protesters as threatening, the progressive newspapers used a news photo viewpoint to depict the protesters bombarded with the water cannon as weak and the members of media organizations in the protest as strong. Secondly, newspapers formed a news photo frame consisted with their coverage tendencies. While the “violent rampage frame” was most used by the conservative newspapers, the “excessive response frame” was most used by the progressive newspapers. The present study demonstrated that newspapers formed different frames in their news photos according to their coverage tendencies.
