Abstract

Neurobiological etiologies of obsessive compulsive disorder(OCD) were reviewed in this article. The etiology of OCD is unknown, but several lines of research suggest that it may be the results of a cortico-striatral-thalamocortical pathway dysfunction. Neurotransmitter dysregulation, especially serotonin and dopamine systems, genetic susceptibility, and environmental triggers appear to play a role in developing illness. Insights into neurobiological etiologies of OCD will require combining perspectives as well as developing additional approaches.
