Abstract

In this article, the author reviewed the psychological theories of the obsessive-compulsive disorder, such as psychoanalytic theory, learning theory and cognitive theory. In psychoanalytic theories of the obsessive- compulsive disorder, reviewed the defense mechanism of the patients and patients' regression from oedipal period to anal period. In the learning theories of the obsessive-compulsive disorder, reviewed 'the two-stage learning theory' and 'anxiety reduction theory'. According to these theories, obsessions and compulsions are conditioned responses for anxiety reduction. Finally, the author reviewed the cognitive theories of the obsessive-compulsive disorder. Herein reviewed the cognitive appraisal models and cognitive processing models of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
