Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze mourning and salvation codes under the reign of Kim Jong-un. Firstly, mourning expresses grief as a collective action. Secondly, Kim Jong-il memorial literature records his living years as a history, and besides it makes for Kim Jong-un's succession by adding his power legitimation. The memorial literature that is filled with the dying injunctions, the blood line of Paektu and the legitimation in the reign of a successor takes on a joined aspect of history writing under the national lead through people participation. This paper combines private time with cultural memory by restoring and actualizing time of death, and then looks at the process of composing cultural memory. The space which is projected on cultural memory is called in historical space, and shows the process reconstituted based on Kim Jong-il's achievement and history. People's guilty conscience about Kim Jonh-il's death is represented in melancholy symptom, and then is encoded into the logic saved by lavishing affection on successor Kim Jong-un. Memorial literature, the dead worship and the history writing, is mourning based on grief, and becomes a mechanism contributing to political power replacement. Hereby, Kim Jong-il memorial literature is the way recoding justification for Kim Jong-un's succession race. That is the typical mourning and shows visibly control of the record. In the meanwhile, it is exposed to crack in private memory and able to read anxiety and fear.
